ABC Radio Australia, "Transcripts show pilots unaware before Garuda Indonesia crash"

Transcripts of conversations between the airport control tower and the pilots of an aircraft which crashed last week, have revealed they were unaware of any malfunction with the plane. The Garuda Boeing 737 was carrying 133 passengers and seven crew when it crashed and burst into flames after a scheduled flight from Jakarta last Wednesday.

Police say the final death toll from the crash at Yogyakarta's airport stands at 21. Indonesia correspondent, Geoff Thompson, reports the pilots are still in police custody. Transcripts of the pilot's conversations with Yogjakarta's airport control tower reveal both the tower and the pilots acknowledged good wether and calm wind conditions as the plane came into land.

The pilots confirmed that they were clear to land, without mentioning anything about malfunctioning wing flaps, as has been earlier claimed as a possible cause of the crash. The tower transcripts will be compared with cockpit conversations between the pilots if that data can be retrieved. The black box flight recorder from the passenger jet has been sent to the United States for investigation into the cause of the crash.
