Air Moorea flies seven-minute
shuttle services between the islands of Moorea
and Tahiti. On August 10, 2007, a Twin Otter DHC6
turboprop plane plunged into the sea moments after
taking off from the French Polynesian resort island
of Moorea, apparently killing all 20 people aboard
in the territory's worst-ever plane crash. Flight
1121 took off around noon. Immediately after takeoff
the Twin Otter began to descend until it struck
the sea.
Fourteen bodies
have been recovered; the remaining six passengers
are missing and presumed dead. Weather at Tahiti
at the time of the accident gave a visibility if
10km, with scattered clouds at 2300 ft, 28 deg.C,
dewpoint 21 deg C.
