On July 9, 2006, Russian S7 Airlines Flight 778 careened off the runway during landing and crashed into a concrete barrier and several small storage buildings before catching fire. The airplane, an Airbus A310, was traveling overnight from Moscow to Irkutsk, a regional capital near Lake Baikal in Siberia. Up until 2005, S7 Airlines operated under the name Siberia or Sibir Airlines. On board Flight 778 were 203 passengers and crew members. 124 passengers were killed and 79 others were injured.

The Russian Commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee is conducting a probe into the cause of the Siberia crash. Officials are investigating whether mechanical failure and/or pilot error contributed to the accident.
A preliminary report
was issued the week of September 25, 2006, blaming the
accident on pilot error, and finding that there was no
problem with the engines.
It is important to keep
in mind that the report is preliminary, meaning that the
investigators have not finished reviewing the evidence
and have not reached final conclusions. One should never
assume, however, that any official report gives a complete
and unbiased story.
Injured passengers and the families of loved ones who died in the S7 Airlines Airbus A310 crash are welcome to contact a lawyer at Lieff Global to learn more about their legal rights. We welcome the opportunity to answer your questions free of charge, without obligation and in strict confidence.
Generally only government
officials and representatives of the airline and the manufacturers
participate in such reports, while the lawyers and experts for
the victims cannot. Also, while the preliminary report arrived
fairly quickly, final reports can be subject to long delays.
For these reasons we do not advise that the victims wait for
the final report before taking action to protect their legal
rights.
The Legal Rights of Survivors and Families Whose Loved
Ones Die in Airplane Disasters
We appreciate that this is a time of deep pain and grief for survivors and families
of the passengers and crew who died in
the Irkutsk S7 Airlines crash. At the same time, you will, however, have questions concerning how and why the crash occurred, your legal rights, compensation that may be available to you, and the duties and legal responsibility of S7
Airlines; Airbus, the French manufacturer of the plane; Goodrich Corporation, the United States manufacturer of the thrust reverser system; and/or other manufacturers of component parts that may have failed.
